Another awesome story of a "big" baby being born healthy and drug-free. I adore hearing stories like this because I truly believe that most babies, yes, even babies ten pounds plus, are able to be born vaginally with less "permanent damage" than what would otherwise result from a cesarean. If only women were able to labor NORMALLY; walking, squatting, rocking, letting gravity work the baby down, instead of laboring lying flat on ones back, unable to move her legs or torso from an epidural, I think more "big" babies would be able to born without cesareans.

My aunt insists that my cousin (who's in her late 30's) was 13lbs. My cousin was born vaginally.
I had a 10 lb 2 oz baby in August, no drugs, no meddling, no problem. A woman I met at my son's preschool told me she and her brother were both born at home by a midwife, and they were both 13.5 lbs (she's a grandma now, so that would have been in the late 20s or early 30s, I'm guessing?).
I agree with you. Big babies can be birthed just perfectly if their moms are (a) taught to believe in their bodies, and (b) left alone to labour healthily.
I was. It was the most beautiful experience of my life.

Nice to meet you Melissa! I'm on my way over to you spot now :)
Corin;
Did you find me? You can't get to my personal blog by clicking on my name, you have to copy and paste my URL. People sometimes have difficulty finding me because of that!
My husband's job makes me a bit more protective of who views my blog so I don't make it easy to find. But you don't need a password.

p.s. I have a placenta in my freezer too! My husband thinks it's pretty gross, lol! I like your idea of planting it in a pot but I'm worried the placenta will attract flies or scavengers and stuff if its in a pot? What do you think? I also thought of planting it at my parents' farm, since they're not going anywhere anytime soon...
I've thought about that too becaue we have a lot of wildlife around our home, and coyotes makes up a big portion of it. But I figured if I set stones over the soil it should be fine. Kind of like an old fashion grave? Kind of morbid I guess. But hey whatever works!
I just wanted to agree. I had an 11 pound, 13 ounce, boy the natural way -- long birthing but no drama and no problems. I walked, I lunged, I took hot showers, I bounced on a birth ball, and I used a squatting bar at the end. We were all surprised at his size when he came out looking like a 3-month-old!
It was the most astonishing high!
By the way, he's 36 lbs now at 20 months, and still mostly breastfeeding -- he's just a big little guy. :)
I love your site and the beautiful pictures in the header.
